What could the famous 17th century playwright, William Shakespeare possibly have to do with the 1990s TV sitcom, Seinfeld, which aired nearly 400 years later? A lot, actually. Shakespeare pioneered the use of the “double plot,” wherein two different plot lines are acted out simultaneously, and then come together in the end of the play. Seinfeld picked up on this idea and ran with it, with each episode having as many as four plot lines developing concurrently and converging at the end of the show. There is nothing new under the sun.
