Did Columbus Think the Earth was Flat?

No, that is a myth.  Columbus knew that the earth was a sphere.  He tried to take a short cut to the East Indies from Europe by sailing west because he had miscalculated the circumference of the earth.  Turns out the globe was a bit bigger than he imagined and he ended up in the Bahamas, instead of Japan as he had planned.
