Why the Conquering of the Aztecs Raised the Price of Bread in Spain

What did Europeans conquering Central Americans have to do with the price of bread in Spain?  A lot, actually.  When the Spaniards conquered the Aztecs in the 16th century, they took control of the gold mines there and used the Indians as slaves to work them.  They then returned regularly to bring the gold back to Spain, which increased the money supply, causing the prices of everything to increase, including bread.
